This is a project we have been working on for Natchez Landing. The boardwalk was starting to collapse and when we took the boardwalk off it was clear that pretty large holes in the bulkhead sheathing was allowing the fill from behind the bulkhead to disappear into the lake at a pretty good rate. The tie rods still look good and the pilings are in decent shape etc. so we put treated marine plywood behind the original sheathing to plug the large gaps, we put filter cloth along the whole length and backfilled with septic rock. This should hold up for quite a few years and save the Association having to look at major bulkhead repairs right now. Plus the association took the opportunity to start replacing the existing treated wood boardwalk with composite decking that shoud last for many years without the issues of warping or buckling that they were having with the treated lumber.
Photo below shows large holes in existing bulkhead and treated marine plywood that we are driving behind the existing wall to plug gaps.
